Day 1-Cusco to Santa Maria

The excursion begins with a pickup at 7.00 0 AM in the booking inca jungle.  Leave your suitcase in our storage and then we are off!  Sit back and enjoy the spectacular view while we drive to more than 4,200 meters above sea level until the peak of Abra Malaga.  (Image of mountain).  Take a deep breath, strap on the provided protective equipment and enjoy the majestic mountains before hitting the pavement in new mountain bicycles.  Feel the wind whip across your face as you cruise the winding, mountain roads, pass waterfalls, small mountain villages and the occasional dog in the road.   After almost three hours and a descent of 2,000 meters you will arrive at the lunch stop in Alfamayo.  Take off a layer and apply bug repellent as you enter a new climate in the jungle.   After lunch and some time to relax (let the heat of the afternoon melt you) a short ride in a van you will arrive to begin your first short trek.  Around thirty minutes of penetrating the jungle you will arrive at your first accommodation for the night.  A family owned jungle lodge provides the perfect backdrop to recuperate from the trek and recount the day.  Keep an eye out for the family´s mongoose and parrot!  Reserve Booking inca jungle.

*OPTIONAL TOUR OF RAFTING IN SANTA MARIA, $35 USD.  Pay directly with the Operator.

THIS IS NOT INCLUDED IN OUR BASE PRICE

Day 2-Santa Maria to Santa Teresa

At 7 AM wake up to find that you have been wrapped in the mist of the jungle.  After an abundant breakfast, your day begins with a short, but intense climb to begin your section of the authentic Inca Trail.   As you roll up and down cliffs thru an impressive valley, your guide will transport you to the period of the Incas, revealing what we know of this old and surprising culture.  The trail descends to Quellomayo where the group will stop for lunch and to have time to relax in hammocks.  Keep an eye out for the natural fruit, especially maracuya with its explosion of taste (passion fruit).  After lunch, the trek continues to the long Urubamba River, that you cross in a cart and pulley (safe but exciting!).  Your day trek (around 16 kilometres) concludes with a visit to the immaculate Santa Teresa hot springs.  Submerge yourself in the warm water and let your aches of the trek melt away.  You will round up your day with dinner and a comfortable hostel in Santa Teresa.

Day 3-Santa Teresa Agua Calientes

A standby option to begin the third day: continue the trekking or choose to fly thru the air 150 meters above the river and the jungle!  The option of zip lining includes the transport and the installation of the zip line and five zippers.  Are you brave enough to lean back in the backwards monkey position?  Or unfold your wings and head first position of the incredible Superman.  Be sure to book your zip lining beforehand to ensure the safest, tallest and fastest zippers (there are other less quality zip lining excursions).  The group will join back together in the station of Hidrolectrica for lunch before continuing the trek.  Another three hour of trekking along the train tracks and the furious river and you will arrive at the tourist city of Agua Calientes.  Travelers have the option to visit the local hot springs and explore the city before dinner.  Be sure to make it an early night in order to wake up for the ascent to the jewel of the tour:  Machu Picchu!

*OPTIONAL ZIP LINING IN SANTA TERESA, US $30 USD

Day 4-Machu Picchu/Huayna Picchu a Cusco

The climb to Machu Picchu beings before sunrise.  Climb step by step for approximately one hour using the Incan staircase to the formerly lost fortress of Machu Picchu.  A 2 hour guided tour reveals the mysteries and raises questions over how the Incans lived and how they were able to perform such marvellous feats of engineering.  After the excursion you have the option of climbing to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for the most incredible view of the ruins and the enveloping cliffs of the Andes.  Take some time to explore the marvellous ruins and take perfect photos before returning to Aguas Calientes.  Your time of return to Cusco will depend on the option of bus or train that you select booking Inca Jungle.

Day 1 – Moray & Maras Terraces of Salt Hike

We’ll pick you up from the Hotel at 8:00am and transfer direction to the Sacred Valley; we start across the fertile plain of Chinchero rich with grain, potatoes & beans. Start walking in the little town of Maras, which has nice colonial doors in its main street; we arrive at the circular Inca ruins of Moray where we enjoy a picnic lunch. In nearby Moray you find “the Inca laboratory”. The circles were used for the development of different strains of crops. Between the highest and lowest terraces there is a difference of up to 15 degrees. Although the difference between neighboring terraces is very small, it is great enough to create distinct microclimates that change growing conditions and allow the propagation of a huge variety of plants each with slightly different growth requirements. Time is permitted to fully explore these fascinating ruins. After this very atmospheric place Mule trails then takes us to the ancient town of Maras with its out-standing Spanish door arches and vast church. Maras is famous for its spies – due to its strategic location above the Sacred Valley. We then drop down into the Sacred Valley of the Incas to the salt pans of Salineras. Here more than 5000 terraces are still in production and many families of Maras bring their salt to the market of Urubamba on mules. Transfer to Ollantaytambo and catch the train to Aguas Calientes.
